EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

We have enjoyed remarkable success in recruiting and retaining talented employees who build careers at our company. Our employee tenure sets us apart from most companies.

Through our succession planning process, we have promoted from within at all levels of our organization, and most notably during the last few years from our CEO and senior executive management team, to significant headquarters division management positions and also field leadership positions.

Finding, growing and empowering people

We will strengthen our business by improving our training, mentoring and succession planning. To do this, we will:

  • Evaluate training requirements necessary to equip our employees with the tools and skills they need to succeed in an environment that is increasingly technology driven and data driven.
  • Focus on enhancing our succession-planning process.
  • Identify and develop talent in our most vital technical and professional positions.
  • Continue to promote work-life balance and flexibility, in recognition of the diverse needs of both younger and older employees.

We are investing much effort into communicating our corporate strategic and operational plans to all employees and challenging our managers and supervisors to continuously work closely with their employees to show them their individual roles in those plans, so that they clearly see how their contributions connect to our corporate success. We are encouraging open dialog and empowering employees to seize opportunities to contribute to our success, knowing that an environment of that nature will foster employee engagement and team commitment.

Community service = employee engagement

Our United Way campaign team stages fun events to advance our campaign, and bring employees together. When we founded a tricycle race to promote our United Way campaign, nearly 20 years ago, we competed against just one other Harrisburg- based business. Now, the race includes 15 business, closes down a city street, and serves as the biggest event of the campaign.

Our enthusiastic racers draw attention to our campaign, and our employees donate generously.

Watch our team’s training video. Who knew that working at a property-casualty insurance company could be so much fun?

To wrap up another great year, we held parties in December for all our employees, including our largest gathering, of 500, at our headquarters in Harrisburg, Pa.
