In 1919, a Pennsylvania farmer's association founded our company to provide
farm-related workers' compensation insurance to its members. Within a few
years, the association expanded into many other lines of business, and many
other states. Today, we do business in nine states, including a broad variety
of business insurance and personal auto and homeowners insurance. Along with
the U.S. economy, we've changed from an agricultural focus to an industrial
focus and now to a service-economy focus. And true to our roots, we're still a
mutual insurance company, which means that we operate for the benefit of
our policyholders. We've always sold through independent agents. Independent
agents represent other companies, and they work for the insurance buyer, not
the insurance company. They offer customers the best selection and the most
professional insurance consultation.
